Tetsubin Iron Tea Pot
Tetsubin or cast iron tea pots were originally used to boil
water or placed over a hearth to provide heat and humidity during cold
weather. During the mid 19th century as infused tea drinking became more
popular, the tetsubin evolved from being a kitchen item to a status symbol
and became elaborately decorated with high relief designs. Today, tetsubin
teapots are not used to boil water or placed on the stove, but is used only
for brewing and serving tea. Tetsubin teapots enhance the flavor of tea and
are preferred by all masters of tea ceremonies.
Our beautiful bamboo tetsubin holds approximately .6 liters / 20 fluid
ounces and measures approximately 6 1/2" in diameter and 6" in
total height. The inner surface of of the teapot features a coating of
black enamel to help prevent the development of rust and also includes a
stainless steel infuser tea strainer! Our tetsubin iron teapot is
surrounded with detailed relief's of bamboo canes, a pine tee and a cherry
blossom tree which also graces the top of the lid. Our tetsubin teapot

teapots on, however our trivet is so beautiful it also makes for a

pans and dishes. Our black iron trivet measures 5 1/2" in diameter
and 1/2" in height. The bottom of the trivet has three metal feet
with rubber protectors and the top is graced with a beautiful detail of a
